Biography

Within many world traditions, a 'call' summons each person to a collective activity: praying, dining, drumming, or harvesting. The invitation might come through a dinner bell, a trumpet blast, or a muezzin chanting from a minaret. Imagine sound, this audible yet invisible presence, calling people together.

I have worked for decades as a musician but my deeper story is really about calling the circle and connecting people. Soundwork is a way to invite deep listening and group wisdom into a room.

Something profound always happens when we gather in an interactive space. When the circle crackles with intention, imagination, or interaction, we can resolve differences, craft fresh ideas, or deeply nourish ourselves.

"One tree does not make a forest." - A Nigerian proverb.

Convening the circle provides a collective context wherein we can shift from problem to possibility. We may gather in Rwanda to heal from genocide wounds. We may meet in boardrooms to free up a stuck, organizational story. We may bring a riot of sounds into a concert hall to joyfully celebrate. Wherever we meet, new conversations bring new opportunities. Sometime verbal, sometimes instrumental; soundwork is always soulful.

A call is one-sided, a type of monologue. A dialogue happens when two or more engage and make something meaningful. A handful or a roomful may be engage. The size of the community doesn't matter. I only know that wisdom and creativity of the circle is wilder, bolder, and deeper than anything I could dream up.
